Case Study: JP, a 45 year old woman with two children who first saw me five years ago for mild premenstrual syndrome. Her complaint then was of mild agitation and five pounds water retention premenstrually. I recommended a multivitamin program consisting of my Women’s Longevity Formula (Reproductive Years). I instructed JP to take 4 capsules during breakfast and 4 capsules during lunch. Each capsule contains a high B6 and magnesium component. In addition, I gave her an herbal combination Female Tonic, one dropper full twice a day. This basically controlled all of her symptoms.

Nowadays, she is more stressed (which decreases the efficiency of her own hormonal balance). A week to ten days before her period and lasting until the end of her menstrual cycle she is fatigued, depressed, not sleeping well, irritable and her vagina gets dry. To understand the hormonal condition that is causing this, read about prep-menstrual syndrome in my book The Natural Superwoman. Her blood workup showed normal progesterone but a relatively low level of Estradiol (E2).

My treatment solution has three segments:

  1. Working on her Stress Release.
This program followed the guidelines that I explain in depth in my newest book The Natural Superwomen. She was supplemented with ZEN which has L –Theanine and GABA. The GABA achieved muscle relaxation and the L-Theanine improved the biochemical environment that calms and relaxes.
  2. Continue taking her previous supplements. (Women’s Longevity Formula and Female Tonic). Once we relieve her added stress, she may not need any more of these new additions and can continue on her original regimen only.
  3. Treat her with estrogen. As long as she maintains a good natural level of progesterone and doesn’t have typical signs of progesterone deficiency, then there is no need to supplement her with progesterone. She was given triple estrogen formula. The treatment started the minute her symptoms appeared. The dose was adjusted as to her symptomotology. Usually, as she gets closer to her cycle, her own estrogen production decreases and her symptoms increase. This requires an increase in the supplementation of estrogen. Within a few months, she no longer needed the estrogen supplementation and probably as long as she maintains and improves the steps to stay calm and relaxed, she may not require estrogen or progesterone until her perimenopausal age.
